My Preliminary Task.

For my prelim task i had to produce the front cover and a mock up contents page for a magazine for my school. I used a red black and white theme to go with my schools colour theme. I took a photo of a friend and uploaded it to Picasa. I highlighted the image and cropped it to get rid of some of the white background. I then used a font website (Dafont.com) and selected a font that looked fun and not too serious 'Hand of Sean'. I wanted a font like this because the magazine would be for 11-18 year olds. I used the font to make small captions to go over the top of my picture, i did this using Paint by selecting the fonts, and dragging them over the image. I used a variety of sizes of fonts, and made sure they didn't obstruct the image too much.

My contents page has the same font and colour scheme as the front cover to show the housestyle. I have a long red text box which shows what would be in the magazine. There is a mixture of work related issues and fun things like competitions and games. The 'Latimers Latest' logo is shown at the top, and there are images on the right hand side to make the contents look more exciting and also demonstrates what would be in the magazine. I made the contents page on Microsoft Word as it has different settings with text boxes and layouts.

My Coursework Brief

Preliminary Exercise: Using DTP and an image manipulation program, produce the front page of a new school/college magazine, featuring a photograph of a student in medium close up plus some appropriately laid-out text and masthead. Additionally candidates must produce a DTP mock up of the layout of the contents page to demonstrate their grasp of the program.

Main Task: the front page, contents and double page spread of a new music magazine (if done as a group task, each member of the group to produce an individual edition of the magazine, following the same house style).
All images and text used must be original, produced by the candidate. Minimum of four images per candidate.

All of my drafts, ideas, research and planning will be blogged on Blogger.com.
